This past June, Fox Layng Art donated a pair of sketch covers to an auction in support of a local women’s shelter. The two works, “First Contact” and “You’re Not Alone… We Know”, were purchased by a wonderful woman for her daughter, who’s a comic fan. It was a huge honour to have my work be included and the money raised go to such a wonderful cause.

• “You’re Not Alone… We Know” focuses on the strong and diverse women from the Marvel Universe, representing YWCA Durham’s mission to help every woman in need and bring out their strength to overcome. Here the abusive tyrant Thanos sits on his throne, an army at his back, rising against him. The title for this piece also incorporates the organization’s hashtag for the event, #WeKnow.

• “First Contact” is a Venom piece incorporating the symbiotes and J. Jonah Jameson’s astronaut son on his first space mission. In the Spiderman cartoon from the ’90s this is how the Venom symbiote first came to Earth where it eventually made contact with everyone’s favourite wallcrawler.
